THE SOLVER GUIDE

How word ladder solvers work. Connect the dots.

Four letters. One destination. How to play ↗

A word ladder solver helps you discover connections that are easy to overlook. Use one to understand a difficult route, compare your idea with a shortest solution or practise a new pair of words.

Set up your word pair

Open the Poopstep solver and enter a four-letter starting word. The destination initially reads POOP, but you can enter another four-letter word. Uppercase and lowercase letters work. Both words must be in the tool’s word list. Select Find route to see one shortest connection; unsupported words produce a message explaining which input is outside the list.

Read the route, not just the answer

A route lists the starting word, each intermediate word and the destination. The marked letter shows what changed from the previous step. Moves count letter changes, not the total number of displayed words: five words in a route mean four moves. Try explaining why each connection works before returning to your game. That is more useful practice than copying the final word.

Why shortest does not mean unique

There can be several routes with the same minimum length. A solver can return one without implying every other route is wrong. The allowed dictionary also affects the result: adding or removing a word can change which connections exist. Poopstep’s solver uses a connected four-letter English list, which includes uncommon entries, and does not claim compatibility with another brand’s puzzles.

Choose the right amount of help

A full route gives away the connection between your words. If you want to keep solving, start with the first-letter clue or a single next move on today’s answer page instead. The public answer guide covers Poople.io source puzzles. For a Poopstep round, use its own in-game hint button instead. Solver results are separate from game progress and never submit a score.

Questions before your next step?

Why might two word ladder solvers disagree?

They may use different word lists or choose different routes of the same shortest length. Check the accepted vocabulary and the number of moves before comparing results.

How are moves counted?

Each single-letter change is one move. The starting word is not a move, so a route containing five words has four moves.

Will a solver result complete my Daily challenge?

No. A solver result is a separate learning aid. You still need to enter and submit each step in the game for server validation.
